The challenge
As the leading hospital of the GHT du Dunkerquois, the Centre Hospitalier de Dunkerque (CHD) manages over 60,000 MCO stays per year and employs more than 2,000 staff, including 300 physicians.
Like many institutions, CHD faces increasing coding complexity and staffing constraints, making it difficult to ensure accurate revenue capture and compliance with PMSI regulations. To address these challenges, CHD partnered with Parallel to achieve two goals:
Consolidate medical coding revenue today.
Prepare for the full automation of medical coding tomorrow.
The approach
The collaboration was designed to deliver rapid, measurable results with minimal IT or CMIO workload.
Parallel’s generative AI analyzes patient records - both structured and unstructured - to identify and justify recoding opportunities, fully compliant with PMSI coding rules (Methodological Guide, CoCoA, Agora). Each proposed code is supported by evidence from the medical file, ensuring complete auditability and DIM physician validation.
The process follows four simple steps:
Targeting high-potential stays via Parallel’s proprietary algorithm.
Data collection through secure SFTP or direct retrieval (Agentic RPA) from hospital software.
Generative AI coding review combining all clinical and administrative data.
Validation by the hospital’s CMIO.
No IT development was required, and Parallel was compensated only on revenue gains, a fully performance-based model with no financial risk for the hospital.

What’s next
Following this success, a second project was launched with the Centre Hospitalier de Saint-Omer, also part of the GHT du Dunkerquois. This progressive rollout highlights how hospital networks can share best practices while quickly adopting innovative tools in local contexts.
CH Dunkerque and Parallel are now working together to:
Progressively automate the full medical coding process;
Integrate Parallel’s software directly into DIM workflows, embedding the innovation sustainably into hospital operations.
